Boy, I wish they had more computers available when you travel just to get word out that I would definitely be there!
I had my first visit to Roanoke the last couple of days and let me tell you, it is a beautiful place, the mountains are majestic and Ukrops is just as nice as everyone says it is. I even went up to Mt. Catawba (followed some Harleys, figured they would know where the scenic byways are!). Do yourself a favor, too, and see the D-Day Memorial. It's $5 to get in and they open at 10a.m. It's on the way to Roanoke on 460West. Being the history buff that I am, I also wanted to see Poplar Forest just outside of Lynchburg. It was a beautiful site, but kids running around screaming and visitors on cell phones just didn't do it for me. Be sure to also check out the Visitor's Center in Bedford, also off Rte. 460 (near the memorial). It has everything, including up to date information on what's going on in the area if you have a hankerin' for wine-tasting, a bass fishing tourney, for example, or anything else either nature or culturally-related.
Oh, but I digress. At the Grind I was and was disappointed that no one but Erin showed up. We can try another time; maybe by then, I will be seriously settled in the area!! Thanks, Erin!!

I have learned so much about ROA from this board. We are considering the area for a future retirement spot (several years down the road) and just arrived for a 2-month stay (work sabbatical!).
I saw the info on the Saturday meetup but we had signed up for a volunteer day with the area Greenways folks - working on trail building at the Poor Mountain natural area, then went to the storytelling festival Saturday evening out near Fincastle!
Will keep our eyes open for another meetup.
Sure hope seanpecor is there - he has been the nation's best salesman for Roanoke even though he lives in Franklin County!!

I really wanted to be there, but the fit hit the shan down here on the farm and I couldn't make it
With any luck, by the time the next meetup rolls around, we'll be living in Roanoke also! Keep your fingers crossed.
Sean

I haven't been on the forum in a while, and I'm so sorry I missed this. I want to attend your next meet-up!

Hope the next attempt is in May!
My wife and I will be visiting from May 19 to May 27 and would be happy to join the group if the next attempt is during that time. Headnsouth recommended the Festival in the Park while we're there. Maybe something could be arranged for a "C-D rally in the park". What do you think?
