Avg. Utility cost - Salem
We're trying to figure out expenses for our College son who has recently signed a lease in Salem. I don't mean to ask personal questions and would be happy with DM's instead of public posts. Can anyone give me an idea of how much we can expect an electric bill to be per month? The house looks to be about 1200 or so square feet. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. Probably not a lot of cooking. It also looks like water/sewer and garbage is self-pay. Any ballpark figure of those costs?

Salem utility
I believe Salem has very reasonable electric rates. I would give a rough guess at around $50-$75/month.

Wow! That's great news. We pay three times that in a no A/C or heat month.

I have a 1100 Sq ft 3 br in salem & my total utility bill is between 100 & 250 a month. I feel like that is suspiciously high though.
by the way... the city of salem controls the electric/water/garbage pickup so you just get 1 bill for everything.

I actually went to Roanoke College and lived off campus for 3 of those years in a four bedroom, 2 bath house with 3 roommates and our utility bill varied anywhere from $150-$200/month.... This was 5 years ago, so I am sure the rates have increased a bit... Hope that helps!
Good Luck!

Example:
3,200 sq ft 4 bedroom Roanoke County house. $280/mo average annualized expenses includes water/sewer, electric and gas. That's the previous owner, who kept the house pretty warm during the winter, so I suspect that's a bit high.
