sean,
What a great place for you and your family!! We also liked Hunting Hills but there weren't any homes in our price range in 2006. (there are now! but we're staying put. We think we found a well-kept secret where we are)

I know we are going off topic here, but I also liked the Hunting Hills area, it is very convenient, with it's proximity to 220/Electric-419/Starkey Road. You can get anywhere easily. I looked there for a house also, couldn't find what I require in a house in my price range either, found a few but they were in the $875,000 to $900,000 range, too pricey for me. I am very picky and at this point in my life there are certain things I am looking for in a house, one of the most important being main level living. I also looked at lots in Hunting Hills with the thought of building a house, but again, couldn't find a fairly flat lot to be able to build this main level living house. I bet your commute to take your kids to school is quite an easy one now!

I know of several older homes in South Roanoke that have elevators to solve aging in place issues. They're not large commercial 10 person elevators, but just large enough to fit 2 people w/ elbow room enough to fit a wheelchair comfortably. Just a thought. I've been told they're not terribly expensive.
The only lots remaining at this point in Hunting Hills have ridiculous grades. We have friends who built a massive house not far off Hunt Camp Rd, but the driveway doubles as a black diamond ski run in wintry weather.

I think it's sad that in such a beautiful area there are few places that accept glass for recycling. I live in Botetourt and if you're really serious about it, there is a facility in Clifton Forge that accepts glass.
We save our bottles, jars, etc and make a trip up there about once month. Better that than a landfill.

Ahe, silly me, never thought of the possible relationship between "bottles" especially non-clear bottles and drinking (and considering certain religious aspect of thing in the region!) Now the puzzle is sort of at least half solved for me, but then I drink tons of ginger beer, the bottle is non-clear, now what?
