progress st in blacksburg
we are house hunting now. we liked a house on progress street. but were told the street will be connected all the way through and the traffic will be 5 times heavier then.
then we were advised against the house.
I understand that but blacksburg really seems to be a small town. how bad the traffic on progress street could be. i was just wondering about that.
Thanks so much

Blacksburg isn't actually a small town, as far as towns go. In fact it is officially the largest town in Virginia. I remember the non-student population being something like 12-13,000 but with students it mushrooms to 40,000+. I'm not certain, but I seem to remember there being alot of students that rented along Progress. Also, with the road "improvements" on Progress, when there are sporting events (when _aren't_ there?) at Tech, there would be many, many more commuters using Progress as a shortcut. Unless you can put up with the potential for an endless stream of cars, I'd avoid that road.

Thank you! Sean
I think you are absolutely right. the house is great and I am tempted. but logic tells me I should run away from that house.
But, the yard is fairly big (0.4 acre) I was thinking if fencing the yard well and planting noise-canceling plants such as bamboo all the way around the house should help.
Again... I should stop talking about this house like my husband said. but I cannot help it

I'd be wary of a home on Progress St. because of the traffic. Unfortunately, the traffic is zilch now because the semester is over, so you won't be able to know what traffic is really like. We live near Progress and love our location.

I wouldnt want to live anywheres near downtown Blacksburg. The town has refused to clamp down on the drunken student population, and many of the apartment complexes in the area look the other way in regards to the wild parties that take place on their properties.
The "New River Apartment Council" appears to be a joke in terms of their association's desire to "to provide the best in housing in the New River Valley Virginia Areas..." They don't want to hire security to deal with the party situation, and seem to be solely about profit only.
