Default Cost for drilled well & septic - Franklin County

I'm interested in learning how much folks had to pay to have a drilled well and septic installed. I know this is one of those "How long is a piece of string?" questions, but I'm looking for some $ figures for budgeting purposes.

We moved here from Northern Neck VA, and the last well we had drilled there cost us $ 7,200 but was 680 feet deep. Before that, our well ( ~ 330 feet) and septic (pump system for 3 bedroom) in Mechanicsville, VA ran around $ 9,000 - $ 10,000. I have no idea how deep drill wells have to be in this area.

Thanks...

Depends entirely on where you located in Franklin County. Most soils in the county perc, so that usually isn't an issue. Well depth depends entirely on where you locate - top of a mountain, side of a ridge, bottom of a valley? I live on the side of a mountain and my well is 180 ft deep. i have friends who have wells in excess of 300 feet and other friends who have deep wells and had to employ fracturing techniques to get water, and other friends who are on town or county water. Location, location, location.

Scott,
Thanks for your reply. There is some new home construction underway in my area, so think I'll just stop by and see what I can find out.

What information did you find?

I spoke with a driller this morning who quoted $20-$22 per foot (minimum 75') plus tack on $400 for county permits and another $2,000 for the pumping system.

total for a 100ft deep well would be approx. $4,600

avg. cost for septic tank and leach field system runs $7,000 to $12,000

So it's safe to say somewhere between $11,000 to $16,000

Please reply back with any differing costs you've found.

Thanks

RW,

My property is located on Callaway Road in the Algoma area, and the pasture land sits between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Middle Ridge. I spoke with a neighbor who recently started his house, and he had Eugene Huff of Southern Well Drilling, Inc.(540-483-7595) install his well. He said the cost was $7.00 per foot and his well was 300 feet deep. This was a drilled well with a pipe lining. This sounds like a great deal to me, but does not include all the costs associated with the well. My neighbor said he purchased his own pump and holding tank and had Southern install them.

The neighbor said he was installing his own septic, and I never followed up with anyone else. Our land perc'd for a gravity system.

The only other estimate he supplied was $2,500 for a contractor to excavate for his basement ( 35' x 100').

I just moved to the area a little over a year ago and don't know any contacts in the Franklin County area.
