Macados is overrated in my opinion. You can save a lot of money by preparing a ham sandwich and chips at home.

That's your opinion. I enjoy just about everything on their menu including the $3.29 BLT with chips which to me is a bargain. The atmosphere is great too.

I agree with Teebyrd. Macado's would have something for everyone. And large portions for the guys!
Good suggestion!

Sorry guy's but the boys attend Roanoke College and go to Macado's often enough. I'm taking 'em to The Home Place. Sounds better then if I cooked for them myself.

I have visited the homeplace and not consumed any meat - just the delicious side dishes!

Just thought I would check back to let you know where we ended up going. We took son and two of his friends out to The Homeplace for dinner. His vegetarian sister was not thrilled with the menu but was able to fill up on apples, mashed potatoes and biscuits. Her brother, otoh, loved the food and he and his friends got our money's worth. Beautiful setting and fast, friendly service.
On our way back from Florida we stopped at son's place again and took the same group out to lunch at Macado's. Service was a little slower but the food was good - what a big selection! We went to the Salem location and afterward walked around the college.
The Roanoke Valley is just a beautiful place to live and we enjoyed visiting the area again and remembering the good times we had when we lived there. Thanks for the restaurant help!

Glad you enjoyed your visits! I was afraid about the vegitarian options. I know, this area is so pretty especially this time of year (and the fall). I will always remember my time in Roanoke, hopefully I will be able to live here for a long time. ::fingers crossed::

My girlfriend is a vegetarian and really enjoyed the Homeplace's sides...I don't recall meat being in *all* of them.
EDIT: Whoops, too late...glad to see you enjoyed Homeplace! It's also a popular stop for Appalachian Trail thru-hikers.
