Default I do not understand!

While the horrible shooting at VT in 2008 should never be forgotten and my sincere prayers go to the families of the victims, today's Roanoke Times has two headlines on the subject, think if you were Eastern Asian freshmen (by ethnicity) at VT, then all these talks would possibly results in animosity towards them, is that the paper's intended goal? I guess not. So, the timing is very bad for the community. Almost at every beginning of a semester this "show" would be on display, it makes me very comfortable.

The Roanoke Times in my opinion is a horrible excuse for a Newspaper just as Channel 10 is a horrible excuse for a local news station.

LOL.

I must admit I only watch WDBJ7. I rarely watch WSLS10..I've never liked channel 10.

As far as Roanoke Times is concerned, I have seen their quality decrease in the last few years, but I would say that is a trend common to the entire printed news industry. The newspaper industry is really suffering (financially), not only at the hands of this economic downturn, but also simply due to the internet becoming the primary source of news. News papers have had to cut staff dramatically over the last 2 years and just about every paper in the country has suffered because of this.

That being said, newspapers are doing everything they can to sell papers these days. That means they have to include more and more fluff pieces as well as include pieces about events like the Tech shooting...because they know people will pay to read those stories. They simply don't have the manpower or the resources to do any kind of substantial investigative research like they used to. If you notice, most of their stories are purchased from AP instead of from local journalists. More of the paper is devoted to state and national news vs local. Its cheaper to buy an AP story than to pay a staff writer.

@540_804, if I'm not mistaken you're a 18ish high school graduate but brilliant and has been accepted by a first-rate college. Your analysis is impressive.

P.S. Either I had a critical typo and I could no longer edit it or it's been changed in my op.
