Any of you have an alarm system in your house? We've had a rash of break-ins in our neighborhood, so we're installing a system. Any local companies?

My dad's house got broken into and now he uses ADT. It cost about $300 to set up (he got motion detectors) but it's only $20/mth. He has been really satisified with it this far.

Be careful when you sign a contract with one of these companies, they usually require you to stay a member for a very long time. The cheaper rates generally have an alarm setup if someone breaks in while the more expensive rates contact police. In my opinion by the time someone breaks into your home it is too late for the police to arrive! Also, with an alarm setup many things will set off the alarm like a cat or squirrel. A police friend of mine told me that the most important thing you can do to prevent break-ins is to try to prevent a break-in from happening. For example, sensor lights, fencing, double bolt doors are also important. BTW, the cops will come to your home and advise on your situation.
