Interesting posts, however I am surprised that Lynchburg is such a beautiful town, I obviously REALLY need to see some ugly towns. I REALLY do not get it.
Heck, driving to work and "enjoying" the scenery makes me depressed….or just a bit down…

lol...to be honest, I understand exactly where you're coming from. After a while of driving around Lynchburg, I had become equally depressed and despondent. The scenery is mostly drab, and uninspired. HOWEVER, for those who enjoy nature, wooded areas, and old architecture, I would say that those were the qualities which struck me as beautiful. Otherwise, yes it can be RATHER depressing and boring, after that luster has worn off, or if one doesnt appreciate these aspects very much.

I don't think people are talking about downtown when they call Lynchburg "beautiful". But if you go out Rivermont, Boonsboro Road, VES Road, Link, Langhorne areas, you do see some beautiful, old neighborhoods and schools. These are a pretty extensive area of lovely neighborhoods. Hopefully, the downtown will continue to be revitalized as there are some neat old buildings there, too.

The "problem" is that most people don't drive around the good parts of L that you listed. Unless you live in that area there are few things to bring you out that way so many people never see the beautiful parts of town unless they try. And maybe we like it that way to some extent.

Yeah, I think when most people think of Lynchburg, they think of the Wards Rd. and Timberlake Rd. corridors as they are the more heavily traveled areas of town. Rivermont/Boonsboro is a beautiful area but is hidden from the larger highways so those who pass by town never notice. Motorists who drive by on 460 only really see LU and the wards rd. strip.

I you guys are right in this regard. Boonsboro Road is very nice, but since I don’t live there, there is no real reason for me to go there most of the time, (however I do swing by the Kroger there from time to time to pick up some Chianti and Mortadella….and maybe some Clotted cream too, but not to go with the Chianti )

When I think of Lynchburg, I think of Wards Rd, Timberlake, Campbell Ave as it connects to Langhorne Rd, Memorial/5th street , Fort Ave and driving these roads does not make me fell “yes, I am so lucky to live here”.

Downtown has some very, very cool old buildings, it is just sad that they have been standing there, many closed up and abandoned for such a long time.

Yes, I can count the number of times I have driven on Campbell on one hand and it is not very scenic. Fort has some nice sections around the state named streets and then goes commercial strip. Wards Road is what it is but we are lucky to have it.

I may be in the minority here but one of the bigger things that bothers me about this town are the rediculously steep hills. I've had to replace my brakes twice since I moved here from NOVA, where it's mostly flat terrain. I remember last winter when we got a trace of ice and there were car pile-ups at the bottom of several steep streets.

B&W is adding far more jobs than they are moving to Charlotte.
Manufacturing will stay in L, but going forward a lot of things will transfer to Charlotte.

Genworth (no longer GE) had some tough times but has bounced back very well. It cut people all over its operations including Richmond. I would see some growth as they get back into the expansion of business mode.

The statement that any of these will not continue to grow in L is baseless.
don't think so.

As to the "dominance" of LU. There is an large proportion of town that is as anti- LU as you can get. Most just don't vare but appreciate what LU does to balance the economy. And they do play some good football.
But they DO dominate it. Doesn't mean everyone there is a fan, but the elephant remains in the room.

Yup, especially when one thinka about how Wards Rd looked like 10-15 years ago BEFORE Target & Best Buy came there. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, a rather large junk yard/scrap iron and metal company and a stripmall with a tattoo parlor and a bridal boutique next to each other.
