I have a quick question regarding Franklin County. My husband has been working there for 2 years and commutes from Roanoke. We love Roanoke. He will be completing his educational leadership masters degree in the not so distant future which would mean he needs to decide where he wants to be a principal/asst. principal/administrator, etc. If he chooses Franklin Co.- it has been advised to him that we should move to the area and I don't want to. I think Franklin Co. has some beautiful spots and it's wonderful if you're looking for privacy and lots of land....but we're not. We previously spent a year living on 2 acres and I HATED being so isolated. I want neighbors- lots of neighbors. I'd also like to remain fairly close to Roanoke. Is there anything like that in Franklin County!? Or should we stick with Roanoke County?

Default Franklin County

It is a a mixture of country life with upscale Smith Mountain Lake style living.
The isolated farm like side of Franklin County does not sound like you so I would suggest looking at the Smith Mountain Lake area. The commute to Roanoke from Rocky Mt is about 30 minutes(depending on US220), an awful highway! Have you looked at areas east of Roanoke in Bedford County also?
Either way commuting should not be a problem here, even if you choose Roanoke County.
