There is a difference between on pace and the actual numbers that have not happened yet since the year is not over.

And I assume you accounted for seasonal fluctuations and not just said, well we are 3/4 of the way through the year, so I'll just calculate it that way.

That's funny, I lived in Milwaukee for several years and you should hear the crap they throw at you there. I can think of many cities nicer than Rochester. Not a single one is in New York. I find the bigger the hell hole the more magical statistics are about how wonderful the place is.

Okay I have to say this yet again... although this is an extremely old post which leads me to believe people are feeling "down" once again about Rochester and this is how they pick themselves back up.
I have said in several other posts-we LOVE Rochester ,it is where we grew up,where our friends and family are.... it does have wonderful things to offer to people...
There is a huge, huge BUT here.
There are absolutely NOT ENOUGH JOBS to keep people there that are paying people well.
I will say it again after just having yet another job offer from a LARGE employer there, they can't keep people! they can't even GET people from out of town these days.
This LARGE employer in Rochester wanted to offer me $35K LESS than I make now AND they didn't want to pay a full relo package out to us! What they wanted to offer would not have even covered the cost of the moving van!
With a masters degree and almost 18 years experience in my field I am insulted and we have almost closed our minds to even thinking about looking back. This is the third offer from Rochester that pays much, much less than I make and that either didn't offer a relo at all or the relo was just ridiculous.

Again,it is our home, we visit often and would really love to be close to our family again so that our kids can enjoy their extended family. We have had people say things like "well the cost of living is less here than where you are so the pay decrease shouldn't matter" seriously folks.... who in their right minds would take a job paying them $35K less and not expect a relocation package of some type?
I don't know anyone , we have asked around, except of course our friends and family in Rochester

All statistics are manipulated; it's human nature. There is no perfect place and it's all determined on what you, as an individual, likes. If I love the cold winters of the NE, who are you to tell me it's the worst place to live and vice-versa......be happy where you are and all else is good....unhappy, and Shangri-la sucks....

I agree with your statement. I am looking to leave the area and I was looking for some similar jobs in other cities. I noticed that for the same job that I do some areas pay double. Even with the cost of living adjustment I still will make more in those cities than here. Houses are cheap in rochester for a reason.

I can't argue with this. I work for a company based out of town with a satellite office here and I worry every day about finding an equally paying job if I lost mine. I only hope this will change around soon with the local economy looking on its way up, but then I see companies like Carestream flood the market because they lay a lot of people off in order to offshore jobs.

I thought that they were doing well with staffing.(carestream) I think the local government needs to figure out a better win-win solution when it comes to these companies and tax breaks. I have heard that it has really not gone according to plan. I know for a fact that too many companies that have been here a long time get a way with murder.( Kodak for example.) Kodak is not even a top 5 employer any more so why do they get a lot of tax breaks..If it is because of all the building they own, I guess that is why they are knocking them down. It is pretty sad.
