I could care less if people move or visit. I do get annoyed at incorrect statements though. These links are not supporting some of the statements that the cold/snow season is so long.

If that's the case why did you move to Richmond???

How hard is it to get. Does rochester get snow between november to may? yes, Than there you go. The snow season is from end of november to april with a possiblity of snow in october and may. So the snow season in rochester is about 7 months long.

Uh, it is pretty rare to get snow in April in Rochester, trust me I lived there for 20 years! To alot of people the 4 seasons is great, to alot of people Miami sauna weather is great but alot think it sucks too just like Rochester. There is no "high and mighty" definition of great weather! It is up to each individual person. What makes Rochester a great quality of life is the natural beauty of the rolling hills, the endless cultural activities, water location, great people, tons of culture, festivals, music scene, great colleges and universities and beautiful lake beaches. As far as Miami, it doesn't surpass Rochester in much, except crime!

I guess you failed to read my previous post. Only 1 April in the past 67 years did not have snowfall. I understand that people have different interpretation on the weather. That is why I said in my previous post "One last comment, every one has a different opinion on what is cold or hot to them so it could be a miss communication."I am glad that you lived here for 20 years. But so have I what is your point. That does not prove anything. Please tell me why april averages 5.1 inches of snow in the past 30 years if it is pretty rare for snow in april.I would say it is pretty rare for snow in sept and may.
explain this if does not snow in april
April
2001- 2002 -6.5 inches next closes month was dec-7.1
2002-2003-6.3 next closes month was march-5.6
2003-2004-5.1 next closes month was nov.-5.4
Compare April and Nov days that had snowfall
2007- 11/n/a
2006- 2/3
2005- 2/11
2004- 6/4
2003- 6/8
2002- 9/18
2001- 3/3
Total 28 /47
It’s pretty rare that last 7 out of 7 years Rochester had snow fall in April. April averages 4.6 days of snow for the month. Please educate yourself on the topic before expressing your opinion. Did I express my opinion in the previous post? No, why because the data tells the picture. If you want my opinion it is bias to what I believe and that is not correct. I posted to show people what the data is saying. Some of the posts were incorrect scientifically because they were using personal opinion and biases. It is okay to have an opinion but if you want people to believe your statement is valid please use some form of evidence or definitions. Most people on these forms never give detailed information on why they disagree with other people statements. Clarification always helps in a discussion.
If you want my opinion of Rochester weather I will explain. I think that Rochester definitely has 4 seasons which is nice. The summers can be mixed some times. Some years can be very warm and actually Rochester record high temperatures in the summer can surpass some Florida city. (Tampa) Most of the time Rochester’s weather to me is mild in the summer. But I like my summers to be around 85-90 degrees. I think Rochester’s best months are probably June and September. I like Rochester in September because it is usually pretty comfortable for an ending summer month. Lately it seems to be warmer than average. I noticed in recent years it seems that the 4 seasons have been shifting months. It seems like fall is October to near the end of December. It seem like we can get 65 temps some times in December. Winter depending on the years can be cold but not as cold as Albany. Winter can feel long because it can start in November and last till April. Most of the time it snow near Halloween or rains then you probably will not see snow until thanksgiving which can be a few inches. Then it may not snow near Christmas if it is a mild. In January thru the end of February it can be very cold in Rochester. It is the coldest month and the month that gets the most snow. It can be very cloudy in the winter months. March thru may can be a very mixed bag. It is usually a time when we are trying to get out of the snow. Usually the snow melts and then we get one or two snow storms that may drop about 5-8 inches. Near the end of June to mid august what I consider the warm part of the year and it usually peaks some where after 4th of July.
The only dislikes Is that there is too much clouds and from October to mid May it usually never warmer than 65 degrees. The lows are very low until May. (Ex. Aprils lows are 30-38 degrees.) But again this is my opinion and it is not scientific. I understand that people have do not have to be scientific on this forum.

bottom line: weather "ratings" are subjective and unique to every individuals needs....talk about WAY off topic, sweetclimber said it all in their last post.

I have lived and traveled all over the US and World......I guess the secret is out about Rochester. It is truely a GREAT place to live. Our quality of life and free time is so great here. I would highly recommend a move to Rochester and ignore all the prior weather hysteria in previous posts as the winters are not that bad and in the event of cold or stormy weather, feel joy in staying warm and cozy in the many great and wonderful homes that one can easily afford here and since you will not be house-poor here like so many other cities, you will have money left over to take an trip to you favorite sunny place if you so desire.....we go to South America for 1-2 weeks every late Dec. or early Jan. We could not have afforded to do this in most other places in which we lived. Also, Rochester has everything you need, so come an enjoy!
