Default Irondoquoit Neighborhood

My wife and I are moving to Rochester in March and one of the homes we are considering is just South of 104 and a few blocks West of Culver. Can anyone tell me if that area is a decent neighborhood to live in as far as crime and such. Thanks!

Default Possibly

If that is the general area that you want to be in, I would suggest keeping north of 104. That is not to say that the neighborhood you are looking at is terrible but it is probably best avoided since you are new to the area and have your choice of any place you want--It isn't too far away from some sketchy stretches of the city. You'll find a good number of Irondequoit houses for relatively cheap prices around Culver Rd. north of E. Ridge Road. It would be a safer bet.

Stick to West Irondequoit, if possible.

I agree to try West Irondequoit or at least north of 104.

What's wrong with East Irond?? To me anything north of 104 is pretty good and only gets better the more north you go, but I didn't think there was anything wrong with the east compared to the west. In fact I would think it'd be better going east if anything and getting away from North Clinton/Seneca/etc.

Nothing wrong with east, but West Irondequoit is the nicer area of town. The school district, for starters, is far superior.

And what's wrong with Seneca? Very nice area. Has a top rated elementary and middle school right off of it.

I live in East Irondequoit but am not from there. There are some people I run into that grew up in Irondequoit who curse the East part, thinking that it's trashy and don't I see why. I live in the Laurelton neighborhood and don't see much of a difference than any other suburb. I'm only a few blocks from the city line and have never had issues.

I grew up in Irondequoit. That stems from being younger and the whole east vs. west high school rivalry stuff.

I live in W Irondequoit, about a mile from the lake. People are friendly, and you never have to worry about taking a walk. There are people everywhere walking their pets or walking with their family. Taxes are a bity pricey (take what you would pay for a house in Salt Lake City ($550) and multiple that by 10). But because of that the schools are great and it's a safe place to live. I'd avoid living south of 104 or even south of Ridge Road East.
