Outside the city center, a lot of jobs are centered around the high-tech corridor between the suburbs of Brighton and Henrietta....largely because that is where RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) is located.
Job market in Rochester in general isn't booming by any stretch of the imaginiation, but it is far and beyond the best job market in the state (in terms of job growth percentage....obviously NYC has more jobs created, but at a much lower rate when compared to its population) and really outperforms most of the country in job creation and unemployment as well. That being said, I certainly would not move here (or anywhere) without having a job lined up FIRST though.
