Default Is Rochester similar to Albany?

We're looking to get out of Albany--my husband can't find a job (he was fired from a local hospital) and there aren't many of these jobs around anyhow in this area.

Anyhow, we don't like Albany. I don't mind the suburbs but I don't like the city of Albany because it's run down and going to do anything in the city is a hassle.

Plus the crime is high. I just don't feel comfortable in Albany city.

What is Rochester like in comparison? Is it as run down as Albany? I know you guys get a lot more snow, but I've lived in Central VT so I can deal with it.

Here we have good resources for autism (a must). And I'd like a very good library and literate population. Good schools (middle and above) for Aspergers/autism?

Is this achievable in Rochester/in the suburbs (I would not live in the city of Rochester, but rather a suburb.)

Thanks if you reply or you can pm me.

What kind of job is he looking for, if you don't mind me asking? This guide could help: New York State Hospital Profile

If you don't like Albany for that reason, then you may not be fond of Rochester due to the stats. Like all cities, there are a range of neighborhoods.

My husband is looking in materials/inventory specifically in a hospital. There was one job he applied to today.

However, we are not sure if NY is still a good option. It's decent for special ed but the jobs are so few and far between where we can afford to live.

Unity Hospital is going through a huge, multi-year expansion.

I've heard a lot of folks complain about Albany in recent years. Not sure why the area has slid some, although I've noticed some state capitals seem overly dependent upon government jobs rather than going after economic development. At any rate the last time I was in Rochester I met a few folks who were recent transplants from Albany.

12 years ago the opposite was happening, in fact Albany was the only real kinda bright spot in Upstate.

Far as resources for autistic children Rochester has many.
