Which are the best snow tires for a small SUV, 2012 Jeep Compass FWD. I have one and it sucks in the snow, got stuck at the bottom of a driveway. I drive the batavia snowbelt backroads 4 times a month and drive from scottsville to webster for work everyday. My plan is to get winter tires and steel rims for the seasons. Which is the best brand of winter tires? Whats the difference between mud & snow vs, winter tires? Im used to 4x4s in the winter and have driven the NYS Batavia snowbelt for 15 yrs. Thanks
General Altimax Arctic have worked well for me and are one of the more affordable options. Hankook Winter iPike are almost the same tread design and about the same price. Both based on a well known European snow tire, the Gislaved Nordfrost 3. IMO the M + S designation doesn't mean much; it seems kind of superfluous in the age of good all season tires.
