Looks like a nice picturesque relaxing drive (especially after running into stop-and-go traffic on our way to LI yesterday). Thanks for sharing.

I think everyone familiar with the Finger Lakes needs to take a vow of silence because they're going to be ruined by a bunch of nomadic idiots looking for "the good life," saying crap like "it's sooo beautiful here."

There is no place in the US as beautiful as New York--summer or winter. Those photos give me a lump in my throat and make me very homesick.
Today, December 10th it is 76 degrees in Raleigh--very hard to catch the Christmas spirit at that temp.

Actually it is December 8th today! The lump in my throat started the other day when it was 40 and everyone was walking around complaining about freezing although they didn't have any coats on??????

Great pcitures! Have you visited southern Vermont as this New England area is equal to the beauty of your finger lakes - what's with the power lines anyway?
Grafton Vermont is voted the most beautiful village in the US most years...Guess we all have our biases! There is just something about New England that squeaks past Upstate New York for over all eye candy- they don't call it God's Country for nothing - there are more books, and tourism addressing NE over NYS for a very good reason...tour dollars flow directly to NE and as they say folks do vote with their feet..What is true is that it is LESS polluted in Vermont than the Finger Lakes - - the air is MUCH cleaner...nice pictures btw..I really like the Finger Lakes too..
Lake George is fantastic

On the other hand, what if those "nomadic idiots" are entrepeneurs who decide to bring their businesses/industry/vocation here?
Gustav Stickley (furniture) was no shclep... Nor was Archemides Russell (architecture)... Stickley is probably rolling in his grave as his company prepare to pull up stakes...

We have disparate visions of "nomadic idiots."
Do you really think BMW-driving, latte-demanding equity locusts from California are going to bring anything useful to the Finger Lakes? The economic realities of the region make it modest and appreciative. I do not want the vulgar consumption and attitudes of California and South Florida to permeate the Finger Lakes.
I see what you're saying, I just don't see who you're saying it about.
(And, just so I don't go too far off-topic, here is my contribution)

Wish I had better pics of Lake Canandaigua but figured I'd post this one. I live in Southern Connecticut but have spent many many summers at the family cottage on the south end of the lake (Middletown Tavern anyone? haha. Great bar!!) I love taking friends up to the lake as many people around here assume that you have to go to Cape Cod or Nantucket for a great summer vacation.
