I do think it's a good idea too JWRocks. I definitely think something like that could work very well.

I think the big dig would be awesome. That is very, very expensive though. In Boston I think it was like 100's of millions of dollars over budget in fact. I actually lived in Boston while the Big Dig was in process. It was a huge conflict at the time. I think the end result is Boston is a much more beautiful city though.

Have you done much walking or visited restaurants/stores in the Park Ave, East Ave, Monroe Ave. area since you've been in Rochester? If not I highly recommend it. We are pretty lucky to have 3 completely different and thriving neighborhoods. East Ave as the clean looking and vibrant area, Park Ave. as the calm but trendy area, and Monroe Ave. as the rough around the edges and just plain fun neighborhood. So I just think that the inner loop destroys the atmosphere between them and I'd love to eventually see non-stop development connecting them together.

I'm sold on removing that stretch of the inner loop, but I'm not sure why they need to build such a wide boulevard in its place. Wouldn't a narrow, low-traffic street better make this neighborhood more pedestrian friendly? There are plenty of wide avenues nearby already.

It's actually not going to be that wide. Were you looking at older renderings perhaps? It's only going to be 2 lanes with a middle turning lane. There will be a dedicated bike lane as well with a median in between it and the boulevard. All the rest of the land will be development ready.

And the eastern inner loop will be closed down forever in 2 weeks!!

I can't wait to see how this progresses. I wish construction didn't take so long though! This is going to be a 2-3 year project to fill it in.

Changes await east side as Inner Loop set to close
