Good areas to move in the city of Rochester
Hi, I'm new to the forum. My fiance and I moved back up from NC about five months ago and are looking to buy a house. We are on the eastern side right now and it seems to be a good part of the city.
I wanted to see what area's that are inside the city that would be good to move to.

Hi, I also moved back to Rochester from NC ( Apex) this past August. We moved to the suburbs because this is where our family is and we have kids in school. You are right that the east side of the city, atleast the southeast, is the nicest area to live. Park Avenue, Swillburg, North Winton, Browncroft, Ellwanger-Berry....all of these are very nice neighborhoods with great homes with charecter at a reasonable price. Check out Rochestercityliving.com to get more info on all of the city neighborhoods, with nice descrptions and pictures!

Thanks for the reply. We used to live in Cary, so you were the next town over.

yep...we lived in Cary for a while too. In Lochmere. I guess the area didn't live up to the hype for you either huh?

We lived over by the Cary town center. Without the traffic, illegal immigrants, hot weather, high prices, southern pine trees, have the family move down, something other than chain restaurants it would have been perfect lol.
How long were you down there?

12 years, almost 13 actually. From December 1994 to August 2007. We started out in North Raleigh near the airport, made our way through Cary, then South Raleigh, and evenutally Apex for 2 years before we realized we just weren't going to find a place where we felt at as much at home and happy as we did here! Glad to be back in Upstate NY.

If you are looking to live in the city I would recomend the South East side. The Park Avenue area has been the premier spot for many years, while downtown on East Avenue has been built up a lot in the past 10 years. Another nice place is the Upper Monroe Neighborhood.

We live in East Irondequoit off of Empire Blvd. and it is a GREAT location. Very convenient to the express way and safe. Just minutes away from the city via North Winton Rd.

Irondequoit has always been my favorite suburb but the taxes are quite high there. The area around Seabreeze is a mixed bag of homes so it is fairly easy to find an affordable place in a nice neighborhood. As mentioned, off Empire is nice too.
