RochesterSubway had a great piece about the inner loop fill-in and a link to a presentation the city engineers and architects presented with some really big ideas of directions to go with building on the new boulevard. And I have to say, I think they are absolutely on the right track. I've always said that we don't sell ourselves well enough in Rochester and we don't connect our great destination attractions well enough. We have the largest museum in the country dedicated to play right there that draws 600,000 people a year and one of the the top Jazz Fests in North America which draws 200,000 a year. That's close to a million people that come into Rochester into that block of the city every year. Not to mention our real American history we have right here in our city, and the deep musical history we have here with the Eastman Theatre and top notch Eastman School of Music right there on East Ave too.

These ideas outline are fantastic. They are breaking the inner loop into 4 themes. The idea is to convert Rochester into a real destination place. The section around the Strong would be dedicated to "Play", hoping for attractions such as extreme sports, waterpark, restaurants, destination hotel...etc. And maybe a jazz venue.

The section around East Ave would be focused on Jazz. With restaurants and themes on jazz. Maybe even piping in Jazz music into those buildings. Its not often you get to start with a completely clean slate int the middle of one your most vibrant sections of a city. So it's exciting to see what will happen. We need to think big on this.
