Maybe this was true once, but property values today are far higher in the South Wedge than the 19th Ward.

I would, however, avoid buying near Arnett.

I delivered pizzas in the 19th Ward, so I am very familiar with that area. I have to say, Genesee Park Blvd. is by far my favorite street in the 19th Ward. There are lots of BEAUTIFUL homes over there. When you start to get up closer to Thurston and in the section between Chili Ave. and West Ave., towards Genesee St., some of those side streets are real rough, but still I delivered pizzas up that way with very few problems.

Like a previous poster had mentioned; drive around sometime on a Friday or Saturday night and look at what's going on... There are definitely problems, but if your not hanging out on the corner you shouldn't have any issue.

On a side note, I don't consider that area to be "downtown". I think of the area inside the Inner Loop to be downtown.
