Smile Spencerport Anyone?

So far I have narrowed it down to Gates, and Greece for my home searches but the other town that came up was Spencerport. Can anyone tell me about the town, and schools? Thank you all for your previous help.

What exactly are you looking for in a town? Proximity to what? Some parts of Gates are pretty far from a lot of things. Spencerport... I don't know much about it... I like Greece out of the three- it was voted one of the safest cities in the country recently. The taxes are a bit high there... but I would live on the border of Greece with Hilton Schools- best of both worlds if you do that- IF schools are an issue.

I hear Spencerport is one of the best school districts on the west side. Not sure what that is based on though. Ogden is a nice town. It depends on what you need. If you work in the city, look for something southwest of the village in the Manitou area that will be in the Spencerport school district/town of Ogden and near 531. I think parts of Greece are in the Spencerport school district as well....namely along Elmgrove south of the Ridge.

My wife and I are mid 30's,kids are 4-14(4 kids). So we're looking for good schools, close proximity to shopping but not on top of us,food including pizza, chinese, etc. close by,and fairly quite suburban area that must be safe. Currently live in Long Island and the house prices are insane. A house that costs $200,000 there would be about $650-700k here.

Why are you looking JUST on the west side? I have family on that side of town, and it is nice... but I grew up on the East side and have to say, if you are looking for these specific things- I would do a search for Fairport, Penfield, Brighton, and Pittsford schools. Just take a look... Fairport recently made the top 100 pages to live- I think it was two years ago. There are so many family oriented activities in these towns... and they aren't as congested (Brighton being the exception- but top schools). I think you will be happy with what you find on the East Side of Monroe County... didn't I mention Walworth/Penfield Schools to you in an earlier posting? You can get a new 2000sqft home there for under $200K... If you don't want shopping on top of you Webster, Greece, and Irondequiot will not suit you well...

I would agree with skbs and look at both the west and east side. I prefer the west side because it is less pretentious, less developed, and pound for pound slightly cheaper than the east side. It also has, purely IMO, more charm and history than the east side towns. Ogden (Spencerport), Chili, Parma (Hilton), Riga (Churchville) are the towns I would investigate. Churchville-Chili, Spencerport, and Hilton are the school districts I would look for. That being said, there are a ton of good places on the east side as well, with Pittsford, Perinton, Webster, Penfield, Victor immediately coming to mind.
