In today's local newspaper, the Gannett owned, 'Democrat&Chronicle', their lead story is about an outstanding young, black athlete, who was supposedly "racially profiled", which caused his some mental anguish. I'm sure that the paper thinks it's "good reporting", while I think it's a "hit piece", designed to stoke the racial fires that are already smoldering.

To condense the multi-page story, what I got was this....the young man is truly a talented b-ball player, as well as a good scholar, and as such, was being scouted for a potential spot on a college team. The college's scout contacted the boy, and made arrangements to meet him at a local high school, to observe him play some ball, and discuss him attending their school, in the future.

Apparently the scout was a little late in arriving, and further complicating the situation, was this interview was at a school that the boy did not attend. He arrived on time, and was outside the school, looking for the scout, as well as the entrance to the gym. Someone thought that he "looked suspicious" and called the Police. According to the printed story, the Police arrived, checked out his story, determined it was legitimate, and left.

End of story, right??

While it could have been, it isn't. The paper inflated this to a huge, front page story, instead of letting it go for what it was....a simple "security check" made by the Police. In my humble opinion, it didn't matter if the boys were white, black, red, blue, or green. They were strangers outside a school that they didn't attend, therefore they were checked out, and given what has happened in some of our schools lately, the check was justified.

^Is there a way to post the article? I believe it is for subscribers only.

With the limited amount I could read, he is a star Basketball player at Aquinas.

Most of the media does nothing but fan the flames on issues like this.
