Default driving on suspended license

I was coming home from work at 3:30 am when i was pulled over for speeding (I was going 71 in a 55 I believe). The officer let me know that there was a problem and that i was driving on a suspended license. I moved at the beginning of the month and did not inform the DMV yet that i had moved. I did not receive notification that i did not pay a driver assessment fee from a ticket from 2 years ago. My car was impounded, i was taken to the police station, my license was taken away, and i received 3 tickets- one for not changing my address, one for speeding, and the other for driving without a license. I was not "arrested" per say. I was not read my Miranda rights, but have to go to the court soon. Can my license be taken away, and what should I expect in court? I took care of everything at the DMV that day and received a new license. I'm scared to death!

As long as you took care of everything before you go to court I wouldn't sweat it.

No reason to be "scared to death". If you went to the DMV to have them pull an abstract on your license, then go to the court where your outstanding ticket was from that got you suspended in the first place you will be ok.

You should have gone to the court where the original ticket was not paid, and you should have paid a "suspension lift" fee. You would have gotten a slip of paper with the raised court seal stamped on it....this proves that you are taking care of the original ticket and are paying the fine on that.

Then you will go to your court date for your arraignment for your 3 tickets recently (speeding, change of address, suspension). You will make a "plea" on these tickets, either guilty or not guilty)...I would plead not guilty on the speeding one....and then come back to court again for your disposition, where the DA will make a "deal" with you on these tickets...you will probably end up with 2 points on your license.

Don't worry....this happens much much more than you realize. (I used to work for a town court )

I'm surprised they arrested you and took your car. Must have been a slow nite for the cop. But any way worst case expect fines up the but. If you have every thing taken care of before u get there, you got nothing to worry about. The only time you would need a attorney and need to worry is if it was a DWI. What happen to you happens to a lot of people and they just want to move the case along as fast as possible.
