What were they thinking? Mt Hope is one of the main roads that people use to get from the city to the Henrietta area. East ave is a heavily trafficked road. This is going to create large problems.
I read about the East Ave lane reduction in the D&C, but I hadn't heard they were reducing lanes on Mt. Hope. Isn't it already one lane each way between Elmwood and the Ford St bridge?
As for East Ave, I don't know if I have all the information, but I think I would support lane reduction there. I think it'll still be able to handle local traffic and the people from Pittsford or wherever that use East Ave to get downtown could use 490 instead, right? Why does East Ave need to be a highway when it basically parallels 490? Goodman St and Monroe Ave both handle a lot of traffic, but they're only one lane in each direction most of the way. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
The upside of fewer lanes and a shoulder would be to make East Ave more pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Also, I think it would greatly improve intersections like the one at Culver Rd or Goodman St by providing room for a dedicated left turn lane.
yes, all other parallel streets are just one lane in each direction which make East ave great for getting downtown in a hurry. If for what ever reason I'm on Park, University or Monroe, it takes about double due to more traffic .East Ave was a nice getaway from the one lane traffic of all other streets. If East ave had lots of restaurants and shops, I would like the lane reduction.
