Default Who has the stats on Rochester?

I'm doing a research project on the crime rate in Rochester. My thesis statement is "Rochester is no longer a safe place to live." I saw some great stats that were posted on some threads- but I can't find them. They were about Rochester as the murder capital, and even some stats about residents moving out of Rochester. They had good info for my report. If you have any info to add- with sources, please do! I would appreciate the help. I've been searching for some stats like the ones posted on some threads.

Please do your own homework. I'm sure your professor would not appreciate you having others do your work for you.

Don't feed the trolls. This guy has been posting negative things in every forum. I think mommy decided to get the internet and he has a new toy.

indeed..professors; actually it's more likely an 8th grade teacher. Actually even more likely there is no assignment at all and they just want to make Rochester look bad. Pretty sad. I'm sure Shibainu will be on here to post some "stats" eventually though.

I have been working on this paper for a while. I have reserched plenty on my own! I don't want make the city look bad. I could'nt think of anything else to write about. I watch the news and there it is: somebody murdered, somebody stabbed, shot. (FYI: police officer got stabbed a few doors down from my house last week.) Is Roch. safe?? I don't want anybody to DO my homework for me either, I saw that people were having chats on violence in Roch., with some convincing numbers and wanted to know where they got it, because I could actually use it for more than just talk-that is if the numbers are accurate. Anyway knowledge should be given if you have some to share.

Do not worry the pro-rochester posters will not give you any data to support anything negative about their community. The D and C does keep stats on crime but I believe it is mostly murder.

You are right; just murder in the D&C. I'm pro-rochester, but I'm a realist. I advocate change. I don't walk around oblivious to the things that need attention. Pointing out that there is a problem will hopefully force people to do something about it.

Rochester was built around a specific economy that no longer exists. Rome was nice too, but cities need to evolve or die. Sometimes they still die.

I love Rochester, but my prediction is the looming economic meltdown will finally put discussions of revitalizing Rochester to rest (along with many other rust-belt cities). The housing bubble will reveal some unsettling realities for many investors who bought "undervalued" upstate property.

Anyway, Rochester is a very dangerous place if you are a young, black male, it's the weekend, it's warm out, it's between 10pm and 3am and you are in certain areas. These are simple statistic facts available in Roc Docs on the D&C. For everyone else, it's not dangerous.

Cold. Hard. Truth.

LOL. Here we go again with the pro-Rochester stuff from the spinmeister. Maybe if you said that the crescent is one of the most dangerous places in New York state, then I would definitely agree. But to say Rochester is one of the most dangerous places in the world is a gross exaggeration. Same thing with mentioning that Rochester has lost jobs over the last few years without explaining that Kodak and manufacturing has been responsible for a lot of the losses and a significant number of high tech jobs and small businesses have sprung up, where the net is a loss or slight gain, but the result has brought on much more stability. Of course you don't think that is true if you were a Kodak for lifer though, or someone who had a nice job in manufacturing with no transferrable skills. So in summary, make realistic statements that are not spun with misleading statistics or claims, and you might get an intelligent conversation instead of broad dismissal.

This would be a more accurate statement over stating that Rochester as a whole is dangerous. Most of the violence is in specific areas and happens mostly to certain groups of people.
