I view it as an "urban thing", a means of transportation that I occasionally used, when I lived on the fringe of the city. But when my wife and I were planning our marriage, and we were looking to buy a house, we wanted a little "elbow room", and went to the "burbs". We don't see too many busses here, I believe RTS runs one through the area in the AM, then one in the PM.
So if I was still in the workforce, and needed to rely on the busses, I'd be SOL........actually, I wouldn't be living where I do.
So, just for grins, I typed in my address, as a starting point, and my former place of employment, as my destination. I also added in 6AM as my desired arrival time, as that was the time my shift started. What I got in reply was, "unavailable to calculate a route".
Unfortunately, the way that the Rochester area developed, mass transit isn't a "cure all" for this area....

RTS has been known to work with employers located in the suburbs. Often it is subsidized by the employer. Xerox arranged to have a bus service a couple times a day in Webster to co-ordinate with shift changes.
Not sure if they still do, but they used to run a bus to Batavia.

I don't question what you're saying, but as someone who worked "shift work", off and on, for a number of years, I wouldn't want to rely on the bus system if I was working the "off shifts". Yes, RTS ran a bus through Kodak's Elmgrove facility, on the western extreme of the county, at 12:10-12:15 AM, for the small number of people who worked the "B shift", and rode the bus.
But God help you, if for some reason you couldn't "punch out" exactly at midnight, and make the dash to the door of the building, to reach the bus. You'd be stuck 7-8 miles to the west of the city, and the "hub" to make your connecting bus, to where you lived. Similar situation if your bus from EP was running late, and you missed the connecting bus, downtown. You'd be stuck at Main and Clinton, at 12:30 AM.......NOT good!
