On a recent interview at Strong Memorial in Rochester, we were told by the recruiter that the shifts are rotating (you don't have one set shift, such as only day). In LA, pretty much anywhere you work your position is day, evening, or night. Does anyone have any input, as we are relocating and this is obiously a MAJOR concern in finding a job...is this really true at major hospitals in this area? Thanks in advance for any replies

It may be hard to find a job in a hospital that is strictly day shift. Seniority plays a part in that. You should be able to find strictly evenings or nights if that interests you. Just remember that Strong is not the only hospital in the Rochester area. You could check out Highland, Rochester General or Park Ridge. If you didn't mind a 30-40 minute commute from the city, you could look into Thompson Health in Canandaigua. Good luck with your search!

Canandaigua would be a little difficult in the cold of winter. It is true that most(if not all) of the Rochester area hospitals have rotating shifts or evenings and nights.
Rochester (the city as it is referred) has a high crime rate. You would want to search for homes in the suburbs. Excellent schools outside of the city. More affluent areas (higher priced) would be Brighton, Pittsford-Mendon, Odgen, Specerport. Reasonable priced would more than likely be Greece, Irondequoit, Chili, Gates, Greece, Henrietta. I may have missed a few. |

Have they told you the pay yet?
If you are not settled on Rochester or find the pay to be too low I would suggest looking further downstate NY. Plenty of big hospitals and I have not seen any "rotating" shifts advertised around here - though a good majority are nights unless you have CC experience. Good luck! |

Out of curiosity, is it true that all RNs in NY state need to have a bachelors? I ask because in most states all it takes is an associates. Well, if anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks
