I've lived in Utah and Arizona alternatively for over 15 years and I plan to move to Rochester.
Would it be easier to obtain handgun possession permit (Monroe County) after prerequisite 6 months of residence without any obstacle provided I am of good moral character or whatever?
After handgun possession permit is obtained after a waiting period, can I apply for CHL (starting with Restriction to Target Shooting and Hunting) that may be issued at Rochester PD's discretion?
Is NYS CHL application process more rigorous in requiring a number of reference for good moral character, firearm/defense training and familiarity certificate for unrestricted license, etc?
I have Utah resident CHL which I will convert to non-resident license when I move and notify Utah Public Safety office of address change.
I know NY gun control law is fairly strict and there is no reciprocity with Utah or any state at this time.
Btw, I read NY state is a high tax area for residents (homeowners and business owners). Is there a web site where I can read the detailed information on property tax, etc for salary and cost of living calculation? I will primarily be renting an apartment.
It's been about 13 years since I obtained my permit. Keep in mind that you'll also need notarized references from people. I would suggest getting the application up front, or maybe speak to someone in the county offices. They deal with lots of applications and can probably best answer your questions.
I lived in the Rochester area for about 20 years. Actuall lived in Ontario County. Have held Concealed permit since 1990. I think you can only get what you apply for, so make sure you get it right the first time.
Economy is bad there. I moved to PA a little over three years ago.
