Default Looking in Victor or Farmington or Perington

Anyone have any opinions about Victor, Farmington or Perington? I am going to take a job in Rochester and have been looking at houses on the Internet. Why the big dropoff in prices towards these areas? The homes look nice and it doesn't look like much of a commute. Is there something else that I should know? I will be moving with two high school age children and my wife who will be looking for employment.

Where are you seeing a big drop off in prices from? Those three towns you mentioned are all great places for a family with excellent schools. The whole Rochester area in general is more afforable than most other areas of the country if you are comparing prices to homes in the area you live now. But within the Rochester region, Perinton, Victor and to a lesser degree Farmington are all above average in price. The only towns in the region that would probably be more expensive than those are Pittsford (one of the most affluent towns in NY state north of westchester) and maybe Mendon. You shouldn't fear anything being considered "undesirable" about those towns at all.

Also, the Eastern suburbs(Penfield, Fairport, East Rochester and Webster) are very nice too. Brighton is also very nice and my personal favorite is Henrietta.

The commute doesn't look like much now - wait til the winter comes.

well i guess being in South America it's not so much winter for you (and depending on whether you are north or south of the equator, it may actually be summer)..but it is definitley winter now here in the northern latitudes!

Farmington or Ontario County in general have the lowest property taxes in the Rochester area.

I live in Rochester and like Victor very much, they have good schools there too. Farmington is a bit farther out from Rochester for the winter commute. Good luck to you!
