If you want the city of Rochester, try the Park Ave. area. there are some other neighborhoods that you might like as well.

One thing we both really like is a more established neighborhood with mature trees -- can you find that everywhere you look out there?

Brighton does have more true mansions. The homes that are closer to the city like near Highland Park, and Monroe Ave are older. You have to make sure you find out what zone your in though, because there are some streets that are considered to be half within the Brighton School district and half out. Check Brighton out thoroughly though, It is a pretty large suburb and there are some fantastic homes there.

I am personally partial to the city (that is only because I grew up there) and there are some really great schools with incredible programs, but if I had to recommend a suburb it would be Brighton, hands down. Great school district, Beautiful homes, not too far from anything...

If you are looking to live in the city I would recomend the South East side. The Park Avenue area has been the premier spot for many years, while downtown on East Avenue has been built up a lot in the past 10 years. Another nice place is the Upper Monroe Neighborhood.
