Default Best neighborhood for single woman?

My cousin is looking into the Rochester area and is wondering what neighborhoods or suburbs would be good choices for a single thirtysomething who really isn't interested in the bar scene. Someplace not too hoity toity but safe with affordable apartments, and not too difficult a commute into the city.

She loves Fairport but wonders if there is some place like it a little closer to the city.

Pittsford is a little closer to the City than fairport and has a nice central walkable village near the canal just like Fairport. Pittsford is a little more expensive and I don't know if there would be too many rentals in that area (same would also apply for fairport though)

Pittsford.... but I do feel it is hoity toity. More so than Fairport. You will trade the distance for the behavior. But you will get more shopping and dining in Pittsford.... But you get more recreation and neighborly behavior in Fairport. It is a trade off. I like both towns for different reasons..... Have her check both towns out....

What is it she likes about Fairport?

I personally did not care for Brighton. I felt that it was very busy and congested. I love the slower/town like feel of Fairport and that is lost in Brighton. You begin to feel the city once you hit Brighton. You do not get the SUBURB feel at all..... you really do feel more like the city outskirts. Fairport feels like a little town/village. They are not the same. I am wondering if THAT is what your sister likes about Fairport. That is usually the charm that draws people there. Or even Pittsford for that matter..... all of these statements can be true for Pittsford as well....

Anyway- that is my opposition to the Brightion suggestion.

Doggz3 is on a distinguished road
Brighton hands down. There are some nice apartment complexes on Elmwood near Clinton. This area is a hop, skip & jump from the southwedge and Park Ave hot spots and yet it's definitely suburb safe. Brighton has the best rentals if apartment complexes are your friend's preferred living arrangement.

She doesn't want to live in a snooty area. An ethnic working class neighborhood is OK as long as it's safe. She likes the canal in Fairport, but doesn't have her heart set on that.

Pittsford could be considered snooty. Not everyone is snobbish, but it is a pretty affluent town so it kind of has that vibe. She might consider the Corn Hill, Swillburg, or South wedge neighborhoods of the city.

I look forward to returning to Rochester and hanging out with Pittsford snobs. I enjoy the company of people who expect and work for the best of everything. I mean that.

As for your sister, she should live in Brighton. The corner of East/Clover has a bunch of condos, but you can find rentals. I'd look there.

haha...Muggy, for you, coming from Florida where everyone acts and thinks they have lot of money and/or deserve to have alot of money and fancy things when most of them make the people in the movie "idiocracy" look like geniuses...your stance on the people of pittsford is totally legit IMO.
