There are a few cool buildings..... On main street there is the Eastman Dental dispensery which is a really cool building.
Though not a building, the abandoned subway is really cool to take pictures in. I've been down there a few times.
I'm a photographer that's interested in photographing abandoned buildings. I'd really appreciate if anyone can suggest a few places.
Thank you!
The old Odenbach plant on Dewey (by the Parkway) is all but abandoned. Has the largest capacity crane in town. Flower City Printing may still use the front office part but I'm not 100% sure.
I don't think there's much left of the old Delco plant on Lyell (@ Whitney), but you might want to try there, just be careful re: the neighborhood.
I've heard there's an old railroad roundhouse in Manchester that's kinda neat, right by the tracks.
Urban exploration/infiltration sites often times have links to Rochester area abandoned buildings. Churchville has an abandoned factory and Pittsford has an abandoned something or other right on the canal. The Rochester psych center on Elmwood is mostly vacant. The abandoned crematorium at Mt. Hope Cemetery is pretty neat, with its gothic style and whatnot (right inside the main entrance). I think the chapel is abandoned too, and it's pretty cool.
Just make sure you don't get in trouble for trespassing at some of those places
If you are looking to shoot abandoned residential, there is plenty in the crescent area - you just have to remove the plywood from one of the windows with a crow bar and you are set.
The old shipyard on Dewey Ave near the parkway is indeed pretty cool, but I hear the current owner of the land is a dick and doesn't hesitate to call the police and press charges for trespassing, but it didn't scare me off the one time I went there, and I was fine after being there for the better part of a half hour or so. There is still an open business back in there so some traffic does go in and out, making any activity look a little less suspicious than if it were totally abandoned. Here are a few I took back there with my car as the subject, and some others without, including looking inside from the far south end of the main building:
Wow, awesome. Yes, this is what I'm interested in. Strictly for photographing only. It's sad to see the damage people cause to these buildings.
Thanks!
