We are looking for a good place to rent in the Rochester area. We are both going through a divorce, so our credit is pretty bad. We don't really know anyone up here, so finding a co-signer is hard. We are looking for a landlord willing to take a chance on us. Looking for a place between $700-1,000 that will alow our dog.

I used to use Rent.com, try the paper, craigslist, apartmentratings.com. When we moved back up we called around to everyplace that had an ad, and asked if they had or knew anyone that was renting.

Post an ad in the "housing wanted" section of craigslist - a lot of landlords troll that site when they have vacancies

Don't rent from char-Bren. They never fix anything, are rude, send goons to your door to pick up rent money on the day it's due, (had to prove by receipt it had already been paid), leave their broken appliances in your yard for months and months, break promises(like telling you that they'll hire someone to clean before you move in, and then don't) their appliances were broken when we movedin and we had to buy all new ones. The home had a leaky roof and wall, plumbing and electrical problems, broken glass all over the yard and porch they never took care of, AAAAANNNNDD..
AAAAANNNNDDD... To top it all off, they tried to get us to pay a security deposit AND earnest money BOTH. We even told them up front we weren't looking to buy.

Come to find out, all the months we were paying rent there, they didn't even own the place anymore. At that point the bank did. They gave us the keys anyway.

Our neighbor who's a landlord even told us, we had the landlord from hell, and we'd probably me packing soon. That was when we first moved in.

By the end of it, we refused to pay rent till they at least fixed the water damage in the wall, and the leaks. They said,"if we fix the wall, will you start paying rent again?" PATHETIC!

Anyway.
Sorry for the rant.

But DONT rent from char-Bren.
