Any unknowns about Webster (NE Rochester)?
Well, my family and I went up to "the Roc" last weekend... did a whirlwind house tour and by Monday we had ourselves a pretty sweet house We are very excited about our immediate neighborhood, about 4 miles SW of the town of Webster. Beautiful suburb, quiet, picturesque, seems to be close to everything...
I am hoping that someone who knows the Webster area can fill me in on anything I "should" know about the area? I was rather shocked when I found out that the Webster school district has emergency plans in place in case of a nuclear emergency - the Ginna nuclear power plant along Lake Ontario is close enough to be considered a threat in the case of some kind of accident.
Any other positive/negative points to add? Also - Our house comes equipped with a security system... do we need to activate it?

Webster is a very safe town....and the fastest growing town in Western NY for good reason. It has great schools and is ideal located on Lake Ontario, close enough to Rochester for an easy commute, but fare enough away to be quite. Some say it is becoming over developed...i havent' been there in a little while so that may be true, but I can't say for sure.

Ginna
Kitty,
I view GINNA as benign. My neighbor works there. I live a couple of miles from there. I educated myself BEFORE I decided to live there.
The reason you see is because...the nuclear core material from which the power is made is NO LONGER in the form of rods like in the olden days. It is in the form of little tiny pellets, which are added a few at a time (none of which can cause serious nuclear problems in the small amounts that are added at one time).
In event of possible emergency..the pellets are simply turned off or stopped before they are added to the reactor...they never "arrive" to cause a problem. When the pellets and the reactor are in two different places and both turned off (automatically in case of emergency) there's no "reaction" and "no electricity" and "no nothing...problems, etc." This kind of power is probably one of the safest forms of electricity there are and certainly one of the most protected, environmentally and physically. I would eat the apples grown in the Smoky Point Orchard right there in a New York minute!
The National Guard, our own police dept. and other "non-seen" surveillance equipment keep a close eye on the facilities and surroundings from intruders at all times. I feel safer here, than in any other town in NY!! There's 100% less danger from nuclear accident than there is from being mugged or murdered/robbed in the city. And if there WAS a nuclear shutdown, nothing would "happen"...NO NUCLEAR EMISSIONS. There's nothing to fear except fear itself as the saying goes. A LOT of research has gone into this power-source design over the last 20 years. It's like a lot of things, the old paradigm gives way to the new. Cool, Huh?
