Default East Ave getting a new Wegmans!

Wegmans proposes plan for new East Ave. store | democratandchronicle.com | Democrat and Chronicle

This is great, well for my wife and I at least. The old store is small and packed. They plan to build a new store directly behind the old one. Looks like there are a few older buildings there that will get demolished. I don't know if the bank tower will or not.

The only thing that I don't understand, there is a Tops two blocks away. It already has the size advantage, with a huge parking lot. It is never very busy. If Tops were to level that building and build a new supercenter, they should have all kinds of business. The build has to be at least 30 years old, looks dirty and has all the old fixtures, flooring and low ceilings.

I dont think the parent company that owns Tops sees its Rochester NY operation as one it wants to spend a lot of money in, they have stores in other growth areas of the USA where their investment if likely to yield a better return.
