Default Well Water in Brockport Area

Hi all,

I was sent to this forum as a friend told me it was a great place to get honest info about an area before buying a house.

So I'm looking at a house just west of Brockport on the Monroe/Orleans county line (but still in Brockport school district and postal code). It has well water and this is causing my wife and I to hesitate.

Should we be concerned? What's the quality like in that area? We've already priced out having spring water delivered regularly for drinking and cooking and it seems reasonably priced. Our biggest concern is with using it to bathe and wash dishes, as well as being paranoid that it could dry out.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

I would be concerned about well water anywhere in the Rochester/Buffalo corridor due to all the old manufacturing and industries that have polluted that area. Do lots of research.

I would be concerned with well water anywhere. Even if you are away from industry there could still be bacteria or other pollutants in the ground. Get it tested!! I remember Alden had some problems at one point. There were also some natural gas pockets that were opened in the area from digging, the gas gives the water a nasty odor.

I had well water at a house once, it was filtered from the tank and then put through a water softner. There was alot of upkeep. The filter used to clog and once in a great while the line coming from the well would freeze due to impropor installation. Not to mention salt for the softner.
