We will probably be moving to Rochester in a couple of months. Anyone in the Border Patrol (or otherwise) who might suggest a good neighborhood near the station? We have a one-year-old and one on the way...
I am looking for a single family house to rent also and a lot of what I find is apartments/condos... Is it generally hard to find houses to rent or am I just bombing in my internet searches? I know it's better to check craigslist and the classifieds..
Also, any neighborhoods in particular to stay away from? I know this is probably a broad request, but off the top of your head?

We are currently living in Maryland, but I am originally from Staten Island, NY and my husband is from Long Island...

if you are working for CBP, that station is in Irondequoit on Pattenwood drive I believe. You would be in the West Irondequoit school district which is pretty good. Most of that area is owner occupied homes, but I'd keep looking on craigslist.

I am originally from here but used to live in So Cal, maybe if you could tell us where you like or lived in So Cal, that might help the expectation here. I would probably say Pittsford would be your best bet...

From Carlsbad, Ca. We would be moving in July of next year. I am a doctor and will be practicing family medicine. We know nothing will have the culture So Cal has but hopefully pittsford will give us the chance to own a nice peice of property.

Pittsford would definitely do the trick... Check out MLS listings of Homes for Sale, Property, Commercial Real Estate and Townhouses in Rochester NY, the Finger Lakes region and Upstate NY and 14534 is the zip code when you search. Good luck and welcome to Rochester!

Yes, 14534 is the zip in the town of Pittsford, but it also covers an area in Henrietta. If you want the Pittsford schools, make sure the housing in 14534 says it is in the town of Pittsford.

I am not against this area of Henrietta. I used to live and work there!!
