Default Should schools considering closing for a period of time...

Should school districts ever consider closing for a few days to try and slow or stop the flu?

I know the school district that I live in had VERY high absentees this past week...most due to flu or flu like symptoms.

I am wondering if it would be beneficial or not to close school? Any thoughts?

Our school says 1/4 of the student have to be absent to close the doors. I do think there are a large number out- but not 1/4 of them. I think if they close it down, wipe everything down and clean up the schools... we might get some of these germs under control... but it will only take another sick kid back in school to start the cycle all over again- especially since swine flu is an airborn flu. It would just take one coughing child to screw everything up after the school has been cleaned up. So it is a really tough call... how much school should the kids miss? And, they are still gong to the grocery stores, touching the carts.... the malls.... restaurants.... it isn't just school where they can catch it. Tough call... really....
