Rochester to Niagara Falls.
I will be working in Rochester for 3 weeks so I will have a few weekends to explore the area. I've always wanted to see Niagara Falls. How far is the drive. Are there other things in the area I might want to see as well?

Depending on where you are in Roc the drive will take you max 90 mins. I do it in an hour in good weather.
If you go take your passport you will want to cross over the view is much better. I go at least 3 times a year.

Thanks for the info. I am coming from San Diego and I dont have any heavy winter clothes, just some jackets, etc. Will it be really really cold in November?

Definitely chilly, particularly later in the day.
We used to take the scenic route along L. Ontario (Parkway to Rte. 18 to Rte. 104 by the hydro power project).

After Niagara Falls, continue 11 miles or so along the Niagara River to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Beautiful little downtown and park. Go to the gazebo in the park along the Niagara River and look over to the old fort on the American side.
If you're staying the weekend, stay at a bed & breakfast and enjoy a great meal in one of the area restaurants.
I love Niagara-on-the-Lake.
It will most likely be windy and rainy in November and gray and drab and depressing, so you will need an adventure like the one you're planning. Get a fleece jacket and a knit cap, and you'll be all set. (Or just your heaviest sweater under your heaviest jacket. If you're cold, you can buy a souvenir sweatshirt someplace.) I'd bring an umbrella, too -- a tiny foldable one.

If you live in San Diego then you need to bulk up
It can get very cold and windy so layer shirts jackets coats gloves thick pants or thermals and head gear cover your ears.
I moved here from So. Cal. so our cold is a lot colder than your cold
Have fun Niagara on the lake is real nice to

November is not as cold as January or February.
But it might be pretty chilly next to the Niagara River and due to the wind.
Too bad Maid of the Mist ends October 25 for the season. They have a nice video on their site describing the experience: http://www.maidofthemist.com/en/
It was fun to see the Niagara Falls movie in the IMAX theatre next to the Skylon Tower: http://www.imaxniagara.com/IMAX-theater/index.cfm
It's been around a long time, but it was well done. A classic.

My former boss told me amazing stories of how beautiful La Jolla was....
but she said the surf on Lake Ontario in November was even better! It's one of our regions most treasured secrets

When we went this summer, our tickets for Maid of the Mist also let us go up on the bridge that overlooks the Falls and the river. I don't know if the bridge is still open if the MOTM isn't running, but if you can get up there, you should definitely do it. You can walk out just about to the midpoint of the river and the view is very good. In fact, if you can do that, I wouldn't worry if you can't get over to the Canadian side.
Also, if you go into the "tourist information center" which is right across the street from the main parking lot, don't get sucked into buying one of their "packages" that puts you on a tram and takes you to different "points of interest." I really don't think it's worth it. The Falls are just a short walk from the parking lot and there's no charge to just walk along the overlook and admire them!
