Default Kudos to Rochester drivers...

Ok this may seem like a lame thread but it is winter in upstate NY and snowing so bear with me....

I found myself driving into Rochester from Livingston Cty. early this a.m., which I never have to do as I work and live in the same town (niceeeee)....

Anyways, the expressway was horrible from overnight snow and the morning commute to the city was crawling, stopping, crawling (a 30 minute ride took a full hour)

But I was amazed at the way people a) stayed off each other's backend b) allowed merging traffic in so it didn't back on the ramps and c) handled their cars amazingly well as there was only 2 that spun out into the snowy knoll for the 30 miles I traveled....

Suffice it to say Rochester, you know how to drive in the snow....and the south wonders why we're so cocky....

One more "Rochester's Got It": went to Pittsford's WEgmans and loaded up on some tasty food (european cheese and meats, some yummies from the olive bar and a great big 'ol peanut butter and chocolate pie) for the weekend as we sit out the Artic Blast coming through!!! Thanks Danny!!!!

Stay warm

I completely agree with you. I moved to Rochester in March of 09 from California and am amazed at how careful people are when it comes to driving. Too many people underestimate storms and blizzards and think nothing of it. There is a general courtesy that comes not only with living here, but with driving here as well. Pick any day of the week and you'll see, Rochester people drive better in blizzards than Californians do in sunshine.

Meh... I haven't driven in Cali... but Rochester drivers are just as dumb as anywhere else. The reason that traffic is backed up for miles... bad drivers. Whether it be someone that spun off the road, someone that cracked into another car because they slammed on their brakes or tried to make a fast move, or just someone too cautious for their own good and creeping along at 30 mph in the fast lane.

I find the drivers here to be no different than other areas of the northeast.. with the exception of snow. We get more so we are going to be better in it. Otherwise you get the same rude, tailgating, weave in and out of traffic drivers that you do in other northeastern cities.

Having driven in in most of the states living in Cali for many years I find that the problem with Rochester drivers isn't that they cant drive in the snow its just when they get in their car the forget where they were planning to go and at random they just turn. You know right here now ! right turn from the left lane. all sorts of random moves. In LA you can pick out the car that will cut you off here it's a crap shoot.

Rochester drivers are better than Raleigh drivers.
