Do a lot of people in small towns still leave their cars setting outside unlocked, especially at night? This video shows why you shouldn't:

Thief seen on surveillance video » Local News » Stillwater NewsPress

Also do you leave the doors to your house unlocked every night before you go to bed? If so, how do you feel safe, unless you have an alert dog or dogs? My doors are locked at night.

If you're stupid enough to leave your car unlocked in this day and age, you're too stupid to own steal-able stuff!

I lock my doors but only because my 20lbs JRT can jump up and open them without the deadbolt in place

I don't lock up my 14 year old F150 though, I live over 500 feet off a little dirt road and can hear anyone coming up my dirt driveway and my dog alerts me.

I have a gob of private drive no tresspassing signs at the bottom of my driveway so it looks like a crazy loon with a shotgun might live up here. And several more as you drive up, kinda like the driveway in the movie Second Hand Lions only scarier I also have several beware of dog signs, not that my antique JRT would do anything other than lick them to death...but they don't know that.

A neighbor down the road has been broken into twice and they have 4 very large hunting dogs, but no signs-they think they look tacky - I'll take tacky any day.

We live in the city and we don't lock our car doors. If someone wants your car or whats in it they'll get it.
Replacement car stereo = $150
Car stereo and window = $300+

What we do tho is make sure all valuables are out of sight and give them no reason to want our car or whats in it.

We're in the sticks...don't lock the cars. Don't leave the keys in the ignition any more, but we've never had the first bit of trouble. (The only trouble I've ever had was when I lived in a town for a year and half in the '90s. Caught a prowler, but that's another story.)

Usually lock the house doors at night, but I expect there are windows open or unlocked. I know all but one of the outbuildings are unlocked as is the office. We have large, barking dogs that are loose. Sound meaner than they are, and don't think they'd ever bite anyone--haven't yet. You'd have to be stone-deaf not to hear them if someone came around.

Why are some people sooooooo proud of never taking simple safety precautions ?

I never understood it.
