So we have a local woman who runs an animal-rescue charity. She had a debit card set up to pay veterinarians, etc. as part of that charity, and someone attempted to use her debit card to buy things for themselves. But this is a really small town, and the post office is full of busybodies who know everybody and everybody's business.
The identity thief signed the name of the woman on the purchases, but put their own address as the place to have the purchases mailed. But of course our PO folks know everyone, so they looked at the name on the boxes and dis-regarded the "faulty" addresses--I mean, everybody knows "her" and where she lives, right? Obviously this company made some mistake when filling out the shipping label, right? So they left her a note in her PO box saying her packages had arrived. The woman checked (knowing she had not recently bought anything) and found the ID thief's purchases along with their address on all the loot. Should be easy to pick the jerk(s) up. Ah, small town life.

We knew we moved to a small town when we needed an answer to a question about who owned the large tower on our property and after visiting three offices in the same building and no one can give us a straight answer..we go home and get a call from the owner..my husband's 2nd cousin.... who he never met and didn't know our number..he must have had his cell or his Progresso soup can burning up from the locals who we talked to, and who we left our number with...found our answer real quick...
1).You know you live in a small town when one person mows the lawns of everyone in the town.
2).When you can't use your debit card or find an ATM anywhere.
