It was horrible. I actually was looking forward to winter since the summer had been so bad weather-wise, but the winter was pretty awful. Lots of temps in the -30C - -40 range. Lots of snow. Driveway blown in every other day. Every time the weather forecaster person promised us relatively milder temperatures, it meant strong southerly winds, and the windchill took all the mild out of the air - and blew the driveway shut.
I had the horses in the barn more often than not. Ran out of feed in January. Had to look high and low for feed, since it is not a buyer's market after the wet summer we had last year (and the year before, and the year before that, etc) Then in the last month alone we had 3 blizzards - not so much with falling snow, as the high winds and blowing snow.
Now we're in the ice stage, with water melting on the roads and freezing. And we are supposed to have freezing rain/snow starting Sunday and running into all next week.
The water table is high here in the Red River Valley, after too many wet years, and all that snow has nowhere to go so we are gearing up for a major flood.
I am very, very tired of winter. In fact, I find myself feeling a little bitter. And we can't rule out more blizzards yet since I remember 1997 very well and this winter had all the markings of that winter.
Not too bad, lowest temp was 34 below zero, a few blizzards, avalanches, snow. It snowed a few inches today, and while I was walking around in town, had a blizzard. Now that got my heart going! It will stop snowing in May...maybe.
We were supposed to have a blizzard today, but it went south of us. Instead it is bright and sunny and not even too cold (meaning the 30s, here.) Too bad - I was looking forward to the blizzard - I LOVE being snowed in!!! When it's sunny & nice I feel as though I should be out doing something useful and productive. So I'm sad winter's almost over.
It's the in-between winter and spring weather that I don't like - dirty snow interspersed with with smooshed brown grass and ice puddles and having to re-direct the snow melting off my roof away from my house so it doesn't go into the basement (don't even mention the word gutter!)
Best wishes to the folks along the Red River of the North and the Mississippi and their tributaries - flooding may be scary this year! Let us know how we can help.
Not really any snow...Winters over for us officially now, but it seems like it has been since like Feb. Yay for spring! Not so much for the allergies....LOL
