harry - that last paragraph is the best advice you could give.

As far as living alone is concerned there is a reason rural folk tend to settle in small villages. It is a LOT safer. If you are out in the real boonies you could have a simple immobilizing accident and unless you were carrying a cell phone or an emergency alert beacon you could lie there until somebody came by or you died. Whichever comes first. Living alone is very serious business.

Or the free range cattle?

As to smaller animals like chickens or such,they do just fine on pasture,as do pigs.

Americans raised to constantly feed and fatten( altering the flavor by doing so) their animals on stuff they don't naturally eat might not find this suitable.
