Thank you so much for posting that, and hubby and I are steadily working our way through the 36 segments with a sense of awe and respect for how these people lived their lives.
Kudos to the cast and crew who put this series together and made it number one in popularity among British viewers! It's simply wonderful, and we've learned about things we didn't even know existed.
Like using pig bladders and burlap to seal chutney -- how cool is THAT!
this isnt the first time for shows like this in the UK, they seem to come and go in pupularity waves, but i remember a few when i was growing up, must be 12 yrs ago now where a family was living in a regular housing estate, in a little semi detatched and "period back yard farming" they had 1/2 acre there abouts and had to raise all their own food ect, barter for goods and dress in victorian period clothing and do everythign as period. it sucked in part for them because it was a home with 3 girls 2 of them in their teens and part of living in period was using period sanitary protection ect...it was amazing to see them live like this for an entire year, i watched avidly, that was the show that made me want to get into back yard farming...
ill do without the period living though, i do enough of that during the summer at renfaire :P
The only problem I have with these show is they get a few days of training, Then are sent back in time. They lack the years of knowlege that they would have if the grew up in that time frame, about how to do things, what works/does not work.
