Here we go. Another Midwest poll. Which Midwestern state has in your opinion the best rural areas to live in: Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio? I personally would vote either Missouri or Ohio, as they probably have the most interesting terrain of any Midwestern state. Eastern Ohio has the Appalachian Mountains, or foothills if you want to call them, Missouri has the Ozarks and the OZark foothills. You can judge by any criteria which rural areas you think are the best for the states of the midwest in your replies.

I like rural Indiana as well.

Also want to note that the Ozarks extend well into Arkansas.

Cool The Carolinas

I would say that the Carolinas have some of the nicest rural areas in the country. I live in one and it is quiet, pleasant and although very rural, not that far from what city folks call civilization. We have easy access to all the amenities but don't have to live with the noise, traffic or unclean air.

Given the list and my family spent time in the Appalachians, and OHIO, I choose Ohio. Part of my family lives in the other states, but we meet in Appalachia. We can forage and find our way, even though we were raised elsewhere.
