Did until a couple years ago. Then a builder put some townhouses up beside the firehouse and the new residents started to complain about the siren. They took it personally as a matter of fact. A couple of them then moved to right next to the Bay and started to complain about the noise the watermen were making when checking their crabpots.
Where my mother lives in WPA still has the siren.
if the wind is coming this way, i can hear the fire siren in the village about 5 miles from here. we get a discount on our fire insurance because we are within 5 miles. the firemen are all volunteers, and have to live within 3 miles of the station. they claim to have "never lost a basement".
Brooks does but there are other towns as well ...they all have fire alarms that go off, and test them everyday at noon as well.
And yes the churches still ring their bells too. Not synthesized crap either big big bells with real clappers that are pulled by big thick rope. This is New England where some traditions just do not die! (LOL)
That is a pretty good record right there. Losing a basement due to fire would be pretty bad
The next town over has a volunteer FD, they respond to my township. I hear they come quicker if they think a keg of beer will be available at the scene.

LOL! I live in a "quaint" (I hate that word) fishing village and we have a few inns on the waterfront. Never fails each year at least one guest will complain about the smells, sounds, or timing of the commercial fishing activities at the pier... all of 200 yards away!
Our town doesn't use the siren for anything but anoying us. It's there for Tornado warnings but shouldn't be used for anything else. Right; since they have three, not one not two but three and they would be for the most part dormant, the town council has seen to it that they sound three times a day. Noon, 6pm and 10pm. The 10pm is for curfew however there really isn't anyone to enforce it our one cop is normally off duty then. What nut job asked for three sirens and then had them placed all within ear-shot of each other? Long ago gone from office yes but I HOPE they are still enjoying them. I certainly do not.
The big town near where I grew up (Cortland NY) had a system of honking the fire horn for a working fire in code to give the location in town. Like, six honks, pause, two honks, pause, three honks, etc. This was used at least thru the mid-1990s when I moved away. I never was in the FD so never knew what the code meant. They had VHF low band beepers many years before that.
Just moved to a little cow-town in the northern Black Hills...they still use the siren, and it goes off at noon each day, too.
