Shopping at the Super Walmart fifteen miles away always reminds of something out of Dawn of the Living Dead. Misery loves company, as the saying goes. We do not make the trip to shop there.
We shop at the two locally owned grocery stores here in town (one is celebrating its 100th anniversary). Plus we have a SaveAlot, which is a discount grocery store even cheaper than Walmart.
I love to hear about people shopping local. I do, and also don't buy goods made in certain countries whose manufacturers I believe are unethical.
It means not buying as much, looking harder and sometimes paying more, but my conscience feels clear.
It is so sad to hear people moan about how unemployment etc are so bad locally, then see them buying that PRC-made shirt from Walmart or other huge international.
