There are advantages and disadvantages to small town vs. big city living.

Raised in the suburbs, I discovered only in middle age that I meant to live in a big city. I appreciate the slower pace and tranquility of small town life on the one hand, but I don't buy the "friendlier" claims made here. From my experience small town people are often not that friendly ... if you're an outsider.

A great thing about living in a small town however is that you don't have the aggravation of traffic jams, hunting for parking spaces, encountering panhandlers on the sidewalk. Some small towns are full of charm and quaintness, but not all. Another thing about living in small towns is that if you desire a bigger home, one with a large lot in order to garden, or if you want to raise animals ... those pursuits would be very expensive in a bigger city.

I get your point of view except for a few points. One, why do you think the government is pushing people into cities? The historical trend since the beginning of settlements has been for people to migrate to cities. And in this day and age, cities are where you can find jobs and night life and activities. I don't see where the government comes into this.

Second, a lot of small towns are company towns, where those companies exert much more control than they do in big cities. At least in big cities there are multiple corporations and you're not just a slave to one.
